Pipeline Pressured Sampler

Samplers used in pressurized vertical pipelines are used to take a representative sample from the center of the pressurized line. Some key points of this process are:

* Sampling Point:
The process flow is directed from the process pump outlet to a sampling point. Here, a sampling device, called a PPS, is used to take a sample.

* Mixing and Homogenization:
The flow is thoroughly mixed before reaching the sampling point due to the abrupt expansion of the pipeline size. The sample representation increases due to the mixing. Therefore, this type of sampler can be mounted vertically at the pump outlet where the flow is turbulent, and the process flow pressure forces a portion of the flow through a sample nozzle that extends into the turbulent central area of the process flow. Thus, the process pump pressure conveys the sample to a sediment separator or secondary sampler.

* Sample Flow Rate:
This is important for accurate sample collection. This rate depends on the diameter and length of the sample tube. The optimum flow rate is determined by the type of sample nozzle. The pipe diameter is usually larger than the sample tube.

Nozzle Type and Optimum Flow Rate Range:
Normal nozzle 1.6–2.5 m/s 3 m/s
Coated nozzle 1.6–4 m/s 5 m/s
Typical sample flow is 100–300 l/min

Cleaning and Maintenance: The sampling system is cleaned and maintained at regular intervals by flushing with water manually or automatically. This helps prevent blockages in the system and improves sample quality.

This process provides a reliable and repeatable method for sampling and analysis in industrial processes.
